Increased demand
SEEK Australia recently revealed the top 20 highest paying industries in Australia with Information Technology topping the leader board at number one. Kendra Banks, Managing Director at SEEK ANZ said: “What we are seeing is that candidates in information and communication technology are more motivated by salary and compensation than those in any other industry. Other factors that are of importance when considering roles within ICT are work-life balance and career development opportunities. We expect to see salaries for ICT roles continue to strengthen across
every sector in the coming years.”
The Information technology sector has been an essential component of improving efficiency in the business community for decades. Whilst the types of systems used in the past have rapidly evolved in recent years, they laid the groundwork for the sophisticated computer networks that are being used today. Technology became such an essential part of improving endurance and maintaining a competitive edge that corporate leaders have begun paying high salaries to professionals who understand the specialised aspects of information technology and possess the qualities required to effectively lead large groups of people in a business environment.
The ICT sector is developing rapidly, growing by 7.8% in 2018, with the average salary for Information and Technology management positions standing at $132,307. Here are some of the most in-demand tech roles for 2019.
• Systems Administrator – System Administrators will continue to be an integral role in any IT department. The ABS Labour force survey has predicted to see strong growth in this role over the next five years.
• Blockchain Developer – According to Gartner blockchain will generate $3.1 trillion in business value by 2030 - Blockchain is here to stay.
• Business Intelligence Analyst – The rise of ‘Big Data’ only means an increased demand for skilled professionals to analyse large sets of data.
• DevOps Engineer – According to LinkedIn, a DevOps engineer is now the most recruited role on the platform.
• Cybersecurity Engineer – With a recent string of high profile cybersecurity attacks, skilled cybersecurity professionals are in high demand.
Recently, universities have recognised this increased demand and developed specialised courses designed for those that want to progress in their career and enter senior management positions. Deakin’s online Master of Information Technology Leadership degree is a unique course designed for busy IT professionals looking to consolidate their years of experience into a master’s degree. The 10 Professional Practice credentials can be completed at anytime within 6 months from the time you enroll. The course culminates in a capstone research project which will demonstrate expertise whilst positively contributing to the IT sector.
