InfoSecurity Europe 2017: Security at the Speed of Business

When: Tuesday 6 June - Thursday 8 June 2017

Where: Olympia, Hammersmith Road, London W14 8UX

Next week sees the opening of InfoSecurity Europe 2017, with more than 360 exhibitors and 18,000 information security professionals in attendance. Some 250 speakers will share their expertise which centres around this year's theme: “Security at the Speed of Business”.

InfoSecurity Europe's organiser, Reed Exhibitions, explains: “Against a backdrop of global economic and political uncertainty, organisations are rapidly transforming and taking advantage of new technologies.”

Speakers will include representatives from a range of organisations including Camelot, Costa Coffee, Department of Work & Pensions (DWP), HSBC, KPN Telecom, Marks & Spencer, Microsoft, Metropolitan Police Service, Network Rail, The Economist Group, Telefonica UK, Trainline.com, Vodafone and others.

Delegates at the event range between leading end-user practitioners, policy makers, analysts and thought leaders, to government and law enforcement representatives.

The opening keynote for the event on Tuesday 6th will be from Dame Stella Rimington, the first female director general of MI5. Dame Rimington plans to discuss her career in the security service and her work in counter-subversion, counter-espionage and counter-terrorism.

Drawing on her experience, she is set to offer unique perspectives on the evolution of security in the UK, Europe and globally from the first DG to have their name published on appointment, signalling an era of openness for the organisation.

Seasoned broadcaster Jeremy Paxman will be giving a keynote on Wednesday 7th. The InfoSecurity Europe website says he plans to share “draw on his expertise in current affairs, politics and history  and share his perspective on the notion of trust in the modern world. Can we and indeed, should we trust anyone?”

Closing the conference on Thursday 8th will be president of the IAAF, executive chairman of the CSM, former chairman of the British Olympic Association, Lord Sebastian Coe who will discuss cyber, risk and resilience in sport and business.

Having been the mastermind behind the 2012 London Olympics, Lord Coe will share his perspective on cyber-risk, discuss his experience of managing risk and reputation in sport and business and explain how challenges in the lead-up to the Olympics were overcome. Given the role of WADA in banning Russian athletes from the Olympics and other events - and subsequent hacking by ‘patriotic' Russians, he should have an interesting perspective on the issue.

Selected sessions from the InfoSecurity Europe programme:

  • Hacking the Internet of Things: The nature of the vulnerabilities of the IoT and what existing and soon to be released IoT devices could be exploited

  • Getting to Know the Cyber Adversary: The motivations, behaviours, tactics and techniques of the increasingly sophisticated and hostile cyber-criminal

  • Disruptive technologies: Is Blockchain the next frontier in cyber-security or does it pose more security challenges than it solves? What are the opportunities and threats of AI technology?

  • Countering ransomware: One of the biggest threats facing organisations, that has continued in 2017

  • Building an agile security theme: Attracting, training and retaining talent
