The Las Vegas-based Venetian Resort Hotel Casino has added an extra layer of IT security with the installation of an intrusion prevention system (IPS) behind its network firewall to identify and block external hacking attempts.
The casino decided on the roll out of Intrusion's SecureNet IPS product in response to what it identified as growing cybersecurity threats.
"With an increased dependence on our rapid-growth computing environment and the increasing cyber security threat to it, we felt it necessary to add more layers to our computer security architecture," said Mike Brunnmeier, The Venetian's IT security manager. "The Intrusion SecureNet system proved to be easy to deploy, manage and keep pace with the amount of traffic sustained on our network."
Intrusion's SecureNet ID&PS is designed to provide deep-packet analysis and application awareness and can be deployed passively for intrusion detection or actively for intrusion prevention.
"Today's casino operators rely more than ever on internal computer and network infrastructures, their customer loyalty database applications and outside internet connectivity to conduct business," said Michael Leach, security partner in Computer Sciences Corporation Consulting.
"With this dependency comes increased risk of vulnerabilities to these systems and the resultant business continuity issues they cause. Also, requirements for regulated information compliance and audit systems for verification have never been greater."
The SecureNet system is one component of the Casino Cyber Security platform offered by Intrusion that includes network intrusion detection and prevention, host-based intrusion prevention, along with regulated and private information protection.
