Los Angeles County's Department of Mental Health has begun a pilot program using Litronic's NetSign Privacy Agent secure messaging software suite.
Litronic, a SAFLINK company, announced the program Tuesday. The pilot program is starting with 100 users as a "proof-of-concept" and plans call for it to scale up to 500 users in the second phase.
Pending successful completion of the pilot, the software may be deployed to 25,000 DMH desktops.
NetSign Privacy Agent will help DMH to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) by securing email, instant messaging, and digital files, according to Litronic. The software is based on Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) technology and features file encryption and military-grade file shredding capabilities.
