Mozilla is introducing the first major piece of its multi-process architecture with its latest browser version, Firefox 50.
Multi-process is a design that that features security sandboxing which makes used of child processes as a security boundary, according to a Dec. 21 security blog post.
The feature separates the render the engine, the part of the browser that reads and interprets HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, from the browser frame and allows the rendering process to be ran in a low privileged sandbox making it harder to take advantage of exploitable flaws in the render engine.
Researchers noted that the sandbox is still in early development and is not yet hardened however, over the next few releases it will be added to Mac and Linux as well as become more restrictive and protective, the post said.
