Prudential cuts out junk mail

One of the UK's largest pensions firms has rolled out an email security solution to reduce its spam and virus problems.

The Prudential has implemented an anti-spam tool for its 7,400 employees. The firm bought the Tumbleweed Email Firewall and Dynamic Anti-spam Service to prevent unwanted email and viruses.

Tumbleweed said its solution identifies 35 per cent of emails as spam, and catches more than 3,000 viruses a day before they enter the Prudential network. Figures from the firm showed Prudential received 40,000 emails a day and blcoked about 14,500 spam emails on a daily basis.

Prudential has 7 locations in the UK. The company was using a combination of security methods to prevent spam, including Realtime Black hole Lists.

To boost the company's protection, Prudential decided to enlist the services of Tumbleweed.

"The use of Tumbleweed DAS has significantly reduced the amount of spam entering our organisation," said Nick De Silva, web hosting and messaging manager, PruTech. "[This] has enabled the IT support to focus their efforts on our core competencies."

Prudential has also incorporated the Tumbleweed Dynamic Anti-spam Service to reduce email management costs.

The anti-spam service is a subscription service that integrates with Tumbleweed's Email Firewall.
