Rebound Orthopedics & Neurosurgery, which operates in the Vancouver and Portland. Ore. metro areas, has reported a data breach which may have affected 2,800 patients and employees.
On May 22, 2018, an unknown threat actor gained unauthorized access to an employee’s email account after it was compromised in a phishing email sent from the address of a contractor whose account had also been compromised, according to The Columbian.
Patients’ name, date of birth, Social Security number, driver’s license number, financial account information, and limited health information may have been compromised in the incident, the medical center’s forensics team leaned on Aug. 8.
Those who were affected will be notified by mail and will be given information concerning the steps they can better protect and monitor their information.
The attack marks the second Vancouver-based business to report a data breach this week after Wednesday, Burgerville reported thousands of its customers’ credit and debit card information may have been compromised during a cyberattack it learned of in late August.
