Capital One Financial Corporation is reportedly reassigning its chief information security officer Michael Johnson to an advisory role, less than four months after the bank holding company disclosed a data breach affecting more than 100 million individuals.
Johnson will instead server as senior vice president and special cybersecurity advisor, TechCrunch reported, cited a Capital One spokesperson. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report on the personnel move.
Until a permanent replacement is hired, Commercial bank CIO Mike Eason is reportedly taking over the role on an interim basis.
The woman accused of performing the Capital One hack, Paige Thompson, was released from federal custody on this past Tuesday and moved to a federal halfway house as she awaits trial.
Thompson, who was an Amazon Web Services employee from 2015-16, stands accused of leveraging a misconfigured web application firewall last March to access Capital One's files, hosted on AWS S3 servers.
