Hundreds of students at Denver's Eagleton Elementary, Castro Elementary and Munroe Elementary schools may be at risk after a thumb drive containing information on the pupils was stolen from a school nurse's car.
How many victims? Hundreds are being alerted – it is unclear exactly which students had data stored on the drive.
What type of personal information? Names, birth dates, phone numbers and health information, including medications and medical histories.
What happened? A school nurse had her car broken into while it was parked in a lot, and a briefcase containing a thumb drive – which housed the student information – was stolen.
What was the response? Letters were sent to parents of the affected students and the schools are taking measures to ensure a similar incident does not occur.
Details: The thumb drive was stolen on Oct. 5. Officials said the thief targeted the vehicle and not the thumb drive.
