A poll of 130 security professionals showed that 64 percent believe government should introduce more laws to improve cybersecurity yet only 17 percent believe government measures are effective in fighting online threats.
The survey, conducted by WatchGuard Technologies at last month's RSA Conference in San Francisco, also revealed that 41 percent believe industry efforts have the most significant impact in combating security threats.
Twenty-five percent said individual business efforts are the most effective while 13 percent believe users' precautions are the most successful in improving security.
Only 19 percent said the government has the ultimate responsibility for addressing cybercrime while 30 percent assigned that responsibility to technology providers, 28 percent to individual businesses, and 21 percent to individual users.
