A new bug bounty program has been announced by the U.S. Air Force to weed out unknown vulnerabilities found the in the networks of the Department of Defense (DoD).
The new initiative was announced at the headquarters of HackerOne, the bug bounty security firm that previously teamed up with the U.S. Army on a similar program, according to Dark Reading.
“When this opportunity came up, we realized that we needed to do this, we need a wider lens with a fresh set of eyes,” said Peter Kim, CISO of the U.S. Air Force.
Vetted white hat hackers and other security experts will be paid based on the severity of the exploit discovered. Each exploit discovered will receive one payment.
The U.S. Army’s “Hack the Pentagon” bug bounty program proved to be a success, with more than 1,400 registrants that resulted in a payout of $75,000 in bounties by the DoD.
