Independent researcher Anand Prakash spotted a glitch that could allow users to book a free ride from anywhere Uber is available, netting the researcher a $5,000 reward.
The researcher spotted the glitch by using an invalid payment method that allowing him to take free rides in the U.S. and in India, according to a March 3 blog post.
Prakash reported the issue to Uber's bug bounty program and the issue has since been patched.
"Uber's bug bounty program works with security researchers all over the world to fix bugs, even when they don't directly impact our users. We appreciate Anand's ongoing contributions and were happy to reward him for an excellent report," an Uber spokesperson told ZDNet.
Uber has been in the news for other cyber related issues as well. It was recently discovered that Uber was using a tool called Greyball to monitor and avoided law enforcement.
