UK and US test reactions to financial cyberattacks

Britain and the US accomplished a planned drill with leading global firms to see how they would respond to a cyber incident in the finance industry.

The test focused on how New York and London, the two biggest financial centres in the world, would cope with a cyber-attack when it comes to sharing information, communication with the public and approaching an incident.

“We train and prepare for the threat of a financial cyber incident. And we will continue to work with our partners in the US to enhance our cyber cooperation,” said George Osborne, Britain's finance minister.

The test was disclosed earlier this year by Prime Minister David Cameron and President Barack Obama in light of the connection of the global financial system.

US financial institutions have already been targets of a major hack with federal prosecutors filing charges earlier this week against three men blamed for organising a huge 2014 cyber-attack on JPMorgan Chase & Co. and other finance giants.
