We found this tool to be easy to set up and manage. The initial deployment is quite simple. Our first step was to install the server and management software on one of our lab machines. The SecureAdmin management software becomes the backbone of the system and an administrator can manage all the various readers from one central location. After the setup of the management applications, we simply scanned for the device connected via Category 5 cable and registered it with the management console. At this point, we could enroll users either directly on the device itself or through the easy-to-follow enrollment wizard on the management application.
This system has many new features that give it a lot of flexibility beyond simple access control. This model also includes a time attendance system along with dynamic messaging, providing human resource teams the ability to update users on corporate events or other conditions.
Documentation provided with this product includes two PDF manuals. L-1 offers 24/7 free technical phone and email support for the first year and ongoing support at an extra fee as part of its support package. There is also a small support area on the website, which includes product documentation downloads and a few other useful resources.
At a price of just under $1,800 for the unit and software, we find this product to be a good value for the money. While it does have some very nice features, it cannot be integrated into an existing user database structure, which adds to overall management cost. We also find that it may be nice to look at, but how much does this flash add to overall cost?
