We found this product to be easy to set up and deploy. The initial setup is completed by accessing a wizard via the web interface of the appliance. This wizard not only configures the IP and network information, but also assists in setting up an initial policy. After the wizard is complete, the appliance is ready to go with little tweaking necessary. However, the appliance is quite configurable and can be easily customized for the needs of any environment.
All administration is done through the web GUI. We found this GUI to be quite easy to navigate and intuitive to use. The tab-top structure allows for easy navigation through the entire interface and many settings can be turned on or off by simply selecting a checkbox.
Documentation included a short installation guide, which described the steps to get the appliance installed in the network and how to access the setup wizard. Other documentation included the appliance reference manual. We found both manuals to be well-organized with many screen shots and step-by-step instructions.
NETGEAR offers solid, single-tier support. With the purchase of a support subscription, customers get access to 24/7 phone and email technical assistance, next-business-day replacement of hardware and firmware and software updates.
At a price of $1,800 for the appliance, software and one year of support, we find this tool to be an excellent value for the money. The NETGEAR ProSecure UTM offers a solid feature set that is easily configurable for almost any size environment.
