A deputy social media editor at Thomson Reuters has been indicted in California for conspiring with members of the hacktivist group Anonymous.
On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced in a press release that Matthew Keys, 26, was charged with three counts of damaging a protected computer.
Keys was a former web producer for KTXL FOX 40, a Sacramento-based television station owned by Tribune Co.
He is accused of giving Anonymous members a login and password to the Tribune Co. server, which ultimately allowed a hacker to deface the Los Angeles Times website.
Keys could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted, as well as three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine per count.
