IronScales Platform reduces email risk by providing multilayered, human-centric threat protection complete with technical and end-user controls and process automation. It also offers post-delivery protection, detection and remediation to defend against phishing threats.
The IronScales Platform is not an inline solution. Rather than serving as an email gateway, it connects at the mailbox level via API, which allows the solution to build an end-user profile based on a user’s regular behaviors.
IronScales has two goals with the platform: detect malicious emails and alert security teams to the presence of malicious content so they can respond to threats as quickly as possible. To meet these goals, IronScales first scans all emails for malicious content then automatically removes risky emails. If nothing is found during initial inspection, the solution then cross-references emails with expected user behaviors. Computer vision technologies also detect differences between legitimate and spoofed pages and issue banner alerts that draw awareness to potentially malicious pages and train end-users to detect suspicious pages and links for themselves. These meaningful banners purposefully exclude static banners, like external senders, to avoid banner fatigue.
A one-click, customizable button lets end-users report suspicious emails. Once engaged, the feature also kicks off a workflow of automated events that leverages Themis, an AI implementation of a security analyst, to triage the reported email. Themis is trained on the real-time, crowd-sourced attack information from Federation to assess and classify emails. If necessary, Themis extracts all the email’s links and attachments and runs them through a 60-engine sandbox analyzer. If the analyzer detects anything malicious, the email will be removed from all affected inboxes across the organization and be reported to the security team using various notification methods, including email alerts.
IronSchool is a training center that teaches end-users how to detect suspicious and malicious emails. It offers a few hundred scenarios to create a campign from.
The IronScales Platform impressed us with its machine learning and AI-driven automation capabilities. Further development of Themis is underway so it can inspect emails like an analyst and automatically respond in less than a second. This response time gives the platform an enormous advantage in the email security landscape and unburdens security teams so they can focus on items and threats that require human analysis.
