Verizon and AT&T will release government transparency reports in 2014

Verizon and AT&T announced within 24 hours of each other that both telecommunications companies will release semi-annual transparency reports in 2014 with regard to government requests for customer information.

Verizon plans to publish its first report in early 2014, according to a statement from Randal Milch, Verizon executive vice president, public policy, and general counsel. AT&T will put out its first report around the same time, as per a statement issued by Wayne Watts, AT&T senior executive vice president and general counsel.

As permitted by law, the Verizon report and the AT&T report will identify the number of government requests for data in criminal cases and will break it down in categories, such as subpoenas, court orders and warrants.
