In September 2022, members of the CyberRisk Collaborative organized a task force to share information about their use of security metrics and develop guidance for new members on how to develop and use these metrics to improve their cybersecurity programs.
By March 2023, a standing security metrics task force was initiated to develop the CyberRisk Collaborative Security Metrics Framework, incorporating its data and visuals into a security metrics tool accessible to all members.
In both task forces, members shared the metrics representations they use in their cybersecurity programs, as well as their experiences, challenges, and best practices for using metrics effectively. This document aims to help security teams improve their security metrics programs by leveraging these shared insights. What follows is an excerpt from the full report, which is available to members of the collaborative.
