The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has seen significant leadership changes and experienced substantial staffing reductions over the past year. These developments follow a period of cuts and layoffs under the Trump administration, raising concerns about the agency's operational capacity and security posture, with further coverage provided by TechCrunch.

Madhu Gottumukkala has been replaced as the acting director of CISA by Nick Andersen. Gottumukkala's tenure was marked by controversy, including reports of uploading sensitive government documents to ChatGPT and failing a counterintelligence polygraph. Staffing at the agency was reportedly reduced by one-third. The agency has also lost Chief Information Officer Bob Costello.

Sean Plankey has been nominated as the permanent director, but his confirmation is pending Senate approval, a process that has been delayed over demands to release a report on telecommunication cybersecurity flaws in light of attacks by the China-backed hacking group Salt Typhoon.
